Mike Nance has been a full time artist for seventeen years. He was at school in Devon England and at the naval school in Anglesey Wales before completing his service in the Marines.

He joined the merchant service but after leaving the sea he drifted through a succession of jobs during which he painted as a hobby.

He became a full time artist working mostly on a seasonal basis during the initial struggle to make a living.

Many of his early works were sold off the railing in London but as he improved galleries started to accept his work.

Paintings of otters, squirrels, badgers, harvest mice and other wildlife are also amongst the Nance paintings which have been published as prints and have been enormously popular.

Nance prints have made his work familiar to tens of thousands of people throughout the United Kingdom and abroad.

His most recent success has been a series of paintings of Dartmoor in which he has succeeded in capturing the elusive atmosphere for which Dartmoor is famous.

Mike Nance owes his success to constant hard work. He starts early and paints throughout the day 7days a week, a ‘compulsive painter’ some may call him!

In common with many famous name artists he has benefited from a large output of work, which in itself gave the opportunity to widen technique and experience.
